Partial or complete removable dentures need adhesives or pastes to stay in place, but implant-supported dentures are connected to metal posts in your jaw in order to fit securely and keep stable. This means that the dentures will not slip, even when you are speaking or eating. With more security and support, patients with implant dentures can rest assured that their dentures will remain in their mouth. Implanted dentures look attractive and can be used just like your natural teeth. At Advanced Smiles, Frisco, TX patients can have custom implant dentures that are comfortable and natural-looking. Learn more about implant dentures, and decide if they are the right choice for you. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Ernest De Paoli.

What Are the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures?

If you're looking for a stable and natural-looking solution to replace missing teeth in Frisco, TX, consider implant-supported dentures at Advanced Smiles. Key benefits of implant-supported dentures include:

  • They provide a comfortable fit, minimizing the chance of sore spots or inflammation.
  • You won't have to worry about them shifting or moving while talking or eating as they lock securely in place, offering you peace of mind.
  • Unlike traditional dentures, they help prevent jawbone loss, a common issue that can arise with conventional alternatives.
  • Implant-supported dentures allow you to confidently eat various foods to enjoy your meals without concerns.
  • They can boost your self-confidence, enhancing your smile and overall appearance.
  • A durable, long-lasting solution that can help your dental health investment stand the test of time.

Prior to any treatment, Dr. De Paoli will perform a thorough dental exam using digital x-rays to assess the health of your jawbone and gums. If your jawbone or gums are not strong enough to accept the implants, then a bone and/or gum graft surgery can be done. Once the grafted area is strengthened, the implants can be placed.

You will be given local anesthesia to numb your mouth before the procedure. Other sedation options may be considered if the process will be extensive or if it helps you feel more comfortable. Dr. De Paoli will make incisions in your gums and place implant posts in the holes in the jawbone. For dentures, at least four implants are needed per arch. The incisions in the gums will be sutured with some of the implanted posts showing above the gumline. The implants will be protected by a temporary denture as your mouth heals in the next 4 – 6 months. The implants will integrate with your gums and jaw. Once Dr. De Paoli feels the posts are strong enough, your custom-made dentures can be connected to the implanted posts and adjusted for a secure fit.

Am I A Candidate for Implant-Supported Dentures?

If you are currently wearing removable dentures or need to replace most of your teeth, implant-supported dentures may provide a more stable and long-lasting solution, as they do not require adhesives or soaking, offer fewer dietary restrictions, can be cleaned like natural teeth, and support jawbone preservation by mimicking natural tooth roots, while during your consultation, Dr. De Paoli will evaluate your oral health to determine candidacy for dental implants, with treatments such as bone grafting for dental implants recommended if additional support is needed for secure and successful placement.

About Us
Can implant-supported dentures feel loose or shift over time like regular dentures?

While implant-supported dentures are designed to stay secure, they can sometimes feel slightly different over time if the jawbone changes or if the attachments wear down. This doesn’t mean the implants themselves are failing—it usually means the connecting parts or denture base may need minor adjustments or replacement to maintain a snug fit. Regular maintenance visits can help our team catch these small changes early and keep your dentures feeling stable.

What happens if one of the implants fails after my denture is placed?

Implant failure is rare, but if it does occur, our team will evaluate whether the area can be re-implanted or if the denture can be modified to function with the remaining implants. Often, the issue can be addressed without removing the entire prosthesis. Early detection through follow-up visits makes a big difference, so ongoing care is key even after your new smile is complete.

Will implant-supported dentures affect the way I speak or eat compared to traditional dentures?

Many patients notice an improvement in speech and chewing right away, but there’s still a short adjustment period as your mouth adapts. Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported options don’t shift during talking or eating, so you can bite and pronounce words more naturally. Most people find that once they’ve adjusted, implant-supported dentures feel more like their original teeth—especially when enjoying tougher or crunchy foods.

Is the implant placement procedure painful?

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort. Postoperative soreness is manageable with prescribed medications, and patients are closely monitored to ensure a smooth recovery.

How long does it take to get implant-supported dentures?

The process involves several stages, including implant placement, osseointegration (integration of implants with the bone), and fabrication of the denture. On average, the entire treatment spans several months to ensure optimal results and healing.

How do I care for implant-supported dentures?

Maintenance involves regular oral hygiene practices, including brushing and flossing, akin to caring for natural teeth. Professional dental cleanings at our office in Frisco, TX are crucial, and the denture itself should be periodically removed and cleaned for optimal oral health.
