Periodontal (gum) disease is inflammation in the gums, which may result in significant damage to your oral health. There are three stages of gum disease, ranging from mild to severe. The first phase is gingivitis, which is brought on by plaque buildup in the gum pockets. If not treated, gingivitis may develop into the second phase called periodontitis, which affects the fibers and bone that support your tooth roots. Advanced periodontitis is the final phase of gum disease, which may cause teeth to become loose or fall out. To treat gum disease, Advanced Smiles provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatments based on the seriousness of the disease, including scaling and root planing, antibiotics, gum surgery, or laser treatments, as well as tooth extraction. When you have signs of periodontal disease, contact our office in Frisco, TX to schedule an examination and consultation with Dr. Ernest De Paoli.

Treatment for gum disease will be determined by the severity of the disease. After Dr. De Paoli diagnoses you with periodontal disease, he will review his suggestions for your treatment program. For cases caught early, scaling and root planing (SRP) is usually done to deep clean your gum pockets. In more advanced cases, an antibiotic may be taken along with multiple SRP treatments. Acute cases of periodontal disease will typically call for a surgical procedure, such as regenerative (grafting) or pocket reduction.

I am a new patient and had a great experience from start to finish with Advanced Smiles. From the initial call to schedule my cleaning to the appointment itself, I found the staff to be kind, welcoming, knowledgeable, and thorough. My hygienist was efficient and skilled with the cleaning and Dr. De Paoli was equally great. He has perfect bedside manner and welcomed any and all questions. Moving from out of state, the office had no issues with processing an unfamiliar insurance plan and proactively offered additional cost saving options. A+++ experience. Thanks!
